Buhari won’t undergo another COVID-19 test -Presidency

A source in the Presidency has said that there will be no need to subject the President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), to another test so long as there was no contact between him and the Brazilian Health Minister, Marcelo Queiroga, who tested positive for COVID-19 at the ongoing United Nations General Assembly. The PUNCH  had on Tuesday reported that Queiroga tested positive for the virus after attending the UNGA in New York that was inaugurated by his President, Jair Bolsonaro, according to an official statement. Queiroga, who had received a COVID-19 vaccine, was the second member of the Brazilian delegation to test positive for the virus since arriving in New York for the UN gathering. The 55-year-old health minister will quarantine in the US even as the rest of the delegation has returned to Brazil. Reps seek identification, release of Nigerians in foreign prisons

The House of Representatives has called for the identification and release of Nigerians imprisoned in other countries across the world. The House particularly urged the Federal Government to “intervene and secure the release of Nigerians who are being detained illegally in prisons abroad,” while mandating the Committees on Foreign Affairs, Justice and Inter-Parliamentary Relations to ensure compliance with the resolution. At the plenary on Thursday, the House unanimously adopted a motion moved by Mr Dennis Idahosa, which was titled, ‘Need to Ascertain the Number of Nigerian Citizens Being Detained in Foreign Prisons.’ Moving the motion, Idahosa noted that Nigerians are in almost all countries of the world, making exploits in sports, technology, business, education and politics and have been ranked as one of the highest educated immigrants in foreign countries. Collection of VAT by FIRS remains – FG

The Federal Government says the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) will continue to collect Value Added Tax (VAT) following the ruling of the Court of Appeal on the matter.  The Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in New York while speaking on the disagreement over the collection of VAT between FIRS and Rivers Government. The chief law officer of the federation explained that the ruling of the Court of Appeal that FIRS and the Rivers Government maintain status quo favoured FIRS.
